Hawaii Nostalgic Package Design

Client: Sun Noodle Brand

Sun Noodle is a noodle maker with the largest market share in the United States. They developed a dry noodle type product that uses Saimin and Drymein, which are well known noodle dishes in Hawaii. Being sold mainly as a souvenir from Hawaii, it was necessary to increase the added value for the visual branding naming. It was also important to implement a certain type of material and shape for the gift package.

The feeling of nostalgic Hawaii, helped to create a highly popular product!

The concept of “Nostalgic Hawaii” expressed a simple and nostalgic taste of Hawaii soul foods Saimin and Drymein. Adopting the names of famous places in Hawaii as the product names helped to convey the familiar feeling of Saimin stands for Hawaii locals. Saimin was named “Liliha Saimin” representing the area where the Sun Noodle headquarters are located. Garlic Shrimp Drymein was named “Haleiwa Dry Mein” representing the North Shore and its famous garlic shrimp trucks. The typography and illustrations printed on the cardboard box were mad to convey a feeling of nostalgic Hawaii and in turn enhanced the added value as a Hawaiian souvenir product through its eye catching and unique packaging.

In 2020, when the product was launched, the number of tourists was decreasing due to the influence of COVID-19, therefore Sun Noodle decided to start online sales prior to in person shop sales in Hawaii. Through online sales the products, quickly became a hit in the US mainland sales.
